Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent for NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively along with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
